Road signs are safety facilities for road traffic that are provided organically or complementarily with road surface markings and traffic signals, serving as a standardized method for road users. "Municipality 101" refers to the motorways specified in Article 4, Paragraph 1 of the Road Act at municipal boundaries, excluding those where the intersection with roads defined in Article 48-3 of the same law is a grade-separated intersection, and are installed on the left roadside, above the roadway, or in the central reservation. "Prefecture 102-B" is installed on the left roadside or in the central reservation of expressways at prefectural boundaries.
